2009 Livermore Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Silver Medal - 2012 SF Chronicle Wine Competition
Ah, dilemma. Do you like your Cabs zippy and bright, or dark and espresso-like? If you tend towards the former, go with the Purple label. This gem offers tantalizing aromas of tobacco, cedar and fine leather, like walking into a Coach store. Then your mouth is flooded by spicy dark chocolate brownie flavors, mixed with cassis, pomegranate and pepper. Wonderfully sturdy yet supple tannins are driven by fabulous acidity, engaging every part of your mouth. The complete experience is akin to a juicy blackberry turnover with a lemon glaze.
This wine has the structure to cellar nicely for up to 10 years, and in 3-5 years, will be even more delectably delightful. Enjoy with a rib-eye steak, finished off with a splash of blackberry balsamic and red Hawaiian salt.
Compostion: 75% Galles Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% One Oak Vineyard Merlot, 6% Smith Ranch Cabernet Franc, 1% White Cat, Malbec, and 8% Smith Ranch Petit Verdot.
